Addition to my Nov 14 post:
No resolution - Still won't change channels using Slingplayer out of home network.
Update on attempted correction:
I've read some users cannot receive any broadcast out of network without re-setting their router to port forwarding. My Slingplayer has a great video and audio connection while out of home network - just can't change channels. I set my router up to port forward. No change - still cannot change the channel. FYI, my wifi router is an ASUS model RT-AC3100.
I have the exact same issue! I upgraded from my old 350 to the 500 this week...all worked well at home, but unable to change channels with the channel buttons on the pop-up viewing page nor the remote. I have tried different options of my cable box (Scientific Atlanta), but that has not helped either. My cable company is Charter Communications, so don't think it is the cable company.
Thankfully, I put it on the channel I wanted to watch (NESN) last night, but now I can't watch any others unless we find some solution.
Where are you Slingbox Support people!!!! Help!!!!
Surprise!!!! I tried to change the remote control in the sling box and it worked
Go to watch.slingbox.com
click the input you want
select the same input but now click Next
Follow along to choose your TV provider( as well as your A/v device for its model number)
After you choose , you aare given an opportunity to test the new remote control
IMPORTANT: If you don't see your A/V device listed, try codes for related devices, including those listed as OTHER. You may have to go back and forth a few times before you find a setting that works properly.
If I were you I would do all this through INTERNET EXPLORER.
From a QUEBECer friend
I've tried numerous devices...and I still have the same problem. Do you actually have to do this from the home network it is connected to, rather than through a different internet connection? I am trying to reconfigure "remotely", and it does not change...I did everything you suggested. This is so frustrating!
I also resolved my problem but differently. When changing channels, the sling box is actually sending an IR signal to your cable box. Two potential issues - first, I had put my slingbox on the floor facing a wall so it did not have a "view" of the cable box so the IR signal could reach it. But ALSO, the newer Comcast X1 boxes are radio controlled and not IR controlled. So sending an IR signal to these cable boxes won't work unless you change your settings on the cable box to receive IR signals instead of RF signals. There is a good article about this on the Slingbox sight but you have to know what problem you are looking for in order to find it.
So as I initially wrote I run a Scientific Atlanta DVR through Charter. The box was previously hooked up with my old 350 using IR, and everything was fine. The 500 was a basic swap out...however, the device selection of the model number was under cable box (not PVR, which I gather from all my readings equates to a DVR)...so, Slingbox in general is not making me a happy camper.
