If you think it was the software on the computer that caused the problem then resetting the Slingbox is pointless. All DirecTV boxes use the same codes so try another device (ignore the Mute/Volume buttons, they control the Slingplayer not the DirecTV). If none of them work the odds are the software update was irrelevant and there is a problem with the IR system. You may have to try the external IR Blaster.
Please explain IR blaster. We continue to have problems weekly with the remote not working. Now the DirecTV box doesn't stay powered up. We are out of country so we have to continually have someone reset the DirecTV device. Is there any know issue between Slingbox 500 and DirecTV. This set up has been working fine for years until we updated software on windows 8 devices as well as Android Tablet.

It came with your Slingbox. It is for use when the internal IR transmitter has either stopped working or the Slingbox is too far away from the device you are trying to control.

Well that has nothing to do with the Slingbox, that sounds like a problem with your DirecTV box. Maybe you should ask on the DirecTV forum about that ?

BTW, I assume that when you tap on the virtual remote power button, the DirecTV does not switch on ? If so did you follow my advice and install another DirecTV remote, in case the one you have is corrupt ? If that doesn't help you are back to the IR from the Slingbox not reaching the DirecTV box. Hence my advice to try the external IR Blaster so you get a stronger signal. Or maybe you are getting direct sunlight on the DirecTV that is blocking the IR ?
Thank you for the suggestions. The Slingbox and DirecTV are connected about 18 inches apart. If the IR transmitter has stopped working, then we would need to pursue the IR blaster. We have changed the batteries in the remote and it seems to work every time at that end when someone reboots the DirecTV box. For some reason, the remote freezes or times out. It could be 1 day or 3 days until this happens.
At this point, I think it is a DirecTV issue. After reading some other issues presented in this "community blog", we believe that we need a new DirecTV receiver. We will pursue all issues when we are on-site. We were just hoping we could trouble shoot it remotely.

Which one should I be using or does it automatically choose when I click on the Slingbox Icon?
Slingbox recently forced an upgrade to the software on my computer for my Slingbox 500. Now my remote does not work. I am away from home so I can't hit the reset button physically. I tried to reset online. But when I selected my DirecTV DVR (HR21) I got a new remote, but only the "MUTE" button worked. Any suggestions?
