    Max speed from Norway to US

      Anybody know what the max speed for streaming is from Norway to US? I have 5Mb download speed on the internet. I can not get more than 1.25Mb from the slingbox. Tested locally in Norway, no problem to received over 5Mb.

          There's a few factors to determine the thoughput of the the stream between US and Norway.

           

          • Maxium Upload Bandwith at the Slingbox location
          • Maxium Download Bandwith at the Slingplayer location
          • Latency between the two sites.

           

          The maximum bandwidth will be determined by the highest common speed between the sites.  For example, if your ISP for the Slingbox allows 3Mbps uploads and your Slinplayer's ISP allows a 10Mbps downloads then the maximum bandwidth between the two sites will be 3Mbps.

           

          The other factor is the latency between the two points.  The maxmium throughput is determined by the bandwidth delay product (http://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?qid=185).  You can use the TCP Analyzer (http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php) to get an approximation of the maximum throughput for a given bandwidth and latency.  Another way to test these numbers is to use (http://www.speedtest.net/).  You'll be able to be able to use the global map to test the bandwidth by pinpointing the two sites to get a better idea.
