I too updated my desktop player software due to 'bug fixes' and was rewarded by ~30 % of box dedicated to ad-space.
I Contacted chat support and was notified it was decision of marketing team to include the ads. Here is a bit of feedback for the marketing team: Including ads on a product that someone purchases (several hundred dollars) isn't going to make the experience better. I think we can already see from the message board that no one is particularly "Happy" about this new "bug fix".
I'm relatively new to the experience (purchased 1.5 weeks ago), but I enjoyed the product up until today. I was considering purchasing two more devices, one for kids use and one for parents, but I won't even think about it until the desktop application is ad-free.
