    Sony DVP-CX995V remote help.

    eferz Expert

      Alan,

Was wondering if you could do me a huge  favor.  I have a Sony 400 DVD Jukebox (Sony DVP-CX995V) and it comes  with remote (RM-ASP001).  I tried Sling's own DVPCX995 and RMASP001 as  well as several remote files from the RM1.  They work but with limited functionality, there are features that are missing from the remote.   This is basically what the remote looks like.

      RM-ASP001.jpg

Basically, its the buttons with the blue lettering which are toggled with the "Disc Explorer" switch.  It makes it pretty difficult to queue through all these DVDs without this functionality.  One of the problems is that Slingplayer uses a generic skin.  So, my plan was to set up the a remote using the following the Sony-HXD870.spr (A Satellite DVR) skin.

But unfortunatly, it appears that I don't quite have a hold on making my own remote without the IR widgit.  So, I was hoping perhaps you could help make one for me?

I am having the same problem.

I also have a 400 disc Sony DVD Changer and need the Folder Button to be available so that I can select the disc I would like to watch.

My DVD Player is the Sony DVP-CX985V.

The Remote Model is the RM-DX500 ir.

The basic controls library for the DVP-985V work for single player controls only.

The codes for the DVP-CX985 (Codes 2 and 3) do not work at all.

          Thanks for your help.

You'd actually have to configure the individual Jukebox to accept address #2 or #3 (default is 1).

This allows you to have up to three Sony Jukeboxes each with their specific remote all in the same location but not interferring control with one another.

Thanks for the explanation on the codes, but it seems like we still have the same problem, no folder access.

Did you see the post where someone built a custom remote?

I downloaded the file but do not know how to install it...

Any idea how to do that?

                  Thanks,

You put the "Y0422_PL.bin" file into "C:\Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\SBAV" folder

The .rmdu file is the original file for the Remote Master application

The .spf is the Slingplayer Favorite export, I'm not sure where  to use that in the current version.

                      ======

(These instructions assume you have installed Slingplayer on your PC/MAC.  If not see http://support.slingbox.com/go/windows-download-desktop-us)

Put the files into your C:\Program Files\Sling Media\Slingplayer\SBAV\ folder.

(For the Mac it is /Applications/SlingPlayer/Contents/Slingbox Setup Assistant/Contents/Resources/SBAV/, and note that The Contents dirs won't show up unless you do a "Right-Click -> Show Package Contents" when navigating into an app's "Contents" directory.)

Now go into Slingplayer and run Setup Assistant and 'Configure Video Sources' (In Slingplayer 1.5 select Edit in the Slingbox Directory then the 'Slingbox Configuration' Tab and the Audio/Video Setup) using Satellite Receiver  as the device type.

This time use 'Other' as the brand and in the next screen use scroll to the bottom of the Code numbers, select 'Custom' and then type Y0422 (NOT y0422, the code is case-sensitive) in the newly appeared Custom Code window.  Then complete the setup as normal (In Slingplayer 1.5, you do not need to scroll down the codes, simply type Y0422 in the Alternative Code window).

If you have problems do NOT just report that it 'doesn't work', that is totally useless for someone trying to understand what is going on.  So report the following:

                      1.   Was there any error message after you typed in the Code (and Tapped the Power button in V2.0) ?

                      2.   Did you give the Power command plenty of time to react ?  (I have a DVR that takes about 6-8 seconds to power up/down)

                      3.   After completing the setup (regardless of whether the Power button worked) do any of the other buttons work ?

                      4.   Have you used a Digital Camera to confirm the IR Blaster is actually firing when you tap the Power button ?

                      5.   Have you experimented with the placement of the IR Blaster ?

And to answer the obvious question, you can NOT rename the Custom menu options to their function, SlingMedia do not allow that.  The best thing to do is use Slingplayer V1.5, which allows you to add them as Custom Buttons, with icons, at the bottom of the screen.

And note you cannot change the remote 'skin'. Slingmedia also do not allow changing that so you are stuck with their generic design.

If you wish to modify the remote I have also included the .rmdu source file for the RemoteMaster program.

You've all been very busy while I've been asleep

For cazxk8:   If you download and install the Custom Remote at http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=7031 (which contains full instructions) then the 'folder' function is mapped to the Custom 17 menu option.

For eferz:  Happy to help, do you happen to know what code you use to get that skin, or what entries in the Setup routine to get it ?

Later:  Sorry, just seen it's Sony-HXD870.  I'll start working on it.

Even Later:   OK, SOny HXD870 is not on my supported list.

How do you get that Remote Skin ?

                                    eferz Expert

I might have got the skin from Slingplayer 1.5, since my Slingplayer 2.0 was simply copied over its install.

To use that skin, I chose:

Device Type: Standalone DVR (Digital Video Recorder)

                                    Zip: 78759

Provider: Time Warner Cable - Digital (non-rebuild)(Austin)

                                    Manufacturer: Sony

                                    Model: RDR-HXD870

Is it okay that the Sony HXD870 isn't the device I'm trying the control?  That was the only custom remote I found for Sony.  Since that skin looks better than the generic skin, I thought we might be able to use it to control my Sony DVP-CX995V.

It's fine.   I have a Logik PVR that isn't supported so I just picked the nicest looking skin and used that

OK, here is the first draft.   It's only a PL file as I think that is what you need ?

Usual deal, use 'Standalone DVR', Sony, Other and V1128

At this stage I have simply used the existing Custom Remote and overlaid it on the Sony Skin.   I think we should find that all the 'basic' functions such as Play, Pause, Numbers...   should work 'out of the box'.  I then need to know where you want to map the specialised functions.

The functions I have available are:

                                        angle
                                        audio
                                        discnext   (I think it's on Ch+ ?)
                                        discprev   (I think it's on Ch- ?)
                                        edit
                                        clear
                                        eject
                                        file
                                        folder
                                        repeat

Is it okay that the Sony HXD870 isn't the device I'm trying the control?  That was the only custom remote I found for Sony.  Since that skin looks better than the generic skin, I thought we might be able to use it to control my Sony DVP-CX995V.

I haven't seen a realistic skin for any DVD changer yet. I wonder if they ever made one. If so it might be easier to start with another manufacturers skin that go from a DVR to a DBD skin.

Might need to watch that the KeyBoard Codes don't change. They are downloaded seperately from the skin file.

OK I found that rather confusing but eventually decided that that the 'preference' column was the one you wanted mapped to the buttons in the first column.  I have no idea what you meant for the other 2 columns

So the latest draft is attached, it does most of it, but you asked for the following functions to ne mapped to buttons and I didn't have them in my list:

                                                Picture Mode   (in 2 places)

                                                Sort

                                                Zoom

                                                Album+

                                                Album-

                                                Am I missing something ?

BTW, I have had some people find that nothing changes when they re-install the file, maybe soem sort of caching problem or a 'memorised' thing in the SLingbox we don't know about.  If it happens then I assume if you install another random box and then revert back to this one the 'cache; should clear.  Alternatively you could delete the  C:\ProgramData\Sling Media\Slingplayer\2.0\Remote\Sony-HXD870.spr file (not sure where that is in the Mac) to force a refresh.

                                                Cheers

                                                    My apologies.

The 1st column is the keymap,

The 2nd column is the virtual remote label for the button,

The 3rd column is what happens when I press the button on the virtual remote

The 4th column is my preference

I'm gonna download the file and test it tommorow morning, thanks for all your help!

It is totally irrelevant in this case.  So just go to the Buttons Tab and swap the functions associated with Custom 17 and the Red buttons.

As a test I uploaded the bin for address 1 for S-Video and shutoff the Jukebox with the Slingplayer remote.  Next, I uploaded address 2 for Component but neither S-Video or Component would allow me to shutoff the Jukebox until I changed the Jukebox's physically to address 2.  Once, it was changed then both S-Video and Component both were able to toggle power.  Then I uploaded address 3 for ANT IN, once again neither S-Video, Component, nor ANT IN could shutdown the Jukebox until I changed its address to 3.  Once, it was changed then all three inputs could power on or off the Jukebox.  Finally, I uploaded Address 1 to Composite input and like the rest all the the inputs; Coax, Composite, S-Video, and Component, each one shut off the Jukebox once it was physically changed to address 1.

To get all addresses to function seperately, I had to compile each bin with a different setup code, which also affects the output filename.  I kept V1128 associated with composite on the Slingbox.  Created V2002 with address 2 and V2003 with address 3.  Uploaded V2002 to S-Video and V2003 to Component.  I could then control each of the Jukebox's respective address seperately with the association of the respective input. This was the only way I was able to diverge the different remote address for the same device.

So, I don't think this is a bug, more like a "feature" of how the seperate bin files are stored and recalled within the Slingbox. This brings me back to my original question, "Do you know if there are alternate setup codes which are assoicated with the RMT-D248P's skin?"

                                                                                                                                                                                              • If not then maybe you should indicate this caveat with the remotes that have address pairing capabilities.

No, I understood completely.  That is why I have a problem when my own V2010 Sky BIN file is trashed by a new V2010 that I am testing on a different input.  I'm not aware of any more options for the skin but don't think it will be a major problem.  There can't be many people with multiple jukeboxes and slingboxes can there ?
