I assume you have DirecTV at your home where you stay during the week. If you put a slingbox in your home and connect it to the DirecTV box and your internet router you can view TV from your home at your cottage assuming you have a good internet connection at both places.
To view on a TV, most newer laptops have a HDMI output that will connect to your (newer) TV
I think Larry answered most of your inquiry Yes, you can use a Slingbox to view your home cable service at your cottage as long as you have an internet connection with adequate speeds. There are also other ways to view on your TV at your cottage location as well, such as any of the compatible connected devices.

I have DirecTV and currently take my dish and box with me when I go to my little lake cottage on the weekends. I am wondering if I can use slingbox to save me all the hassle I go through with the take down set up take down set up I go through...
Can I just put a slingbox at my cottage and leave it there? It seems to me like the cable companies would not allow this because they would want me to pay for a second cable account.
Also, if I can...then how do I watch it on my TV rather then on a computer or phone?
Thanks for your help!!!
