    Direct Tv Mini Genie and Slingbox 500?

    casscarter

      I am about to purchase a Slingbox 500. I've done some research and I see the DirectTV Mini Genie has its own A/V out and an HDMI. I know on the Slingbox some shows through HDMI are blocked. Can I hook the A/V and HDMI at the same time like Slingbox recommends on this YouTube Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks73F6KON5U ? If not I should purchase the M1 without the HDMI. Thanks in advance!

      Also, can I use this setup without a TV? This is just for when I am on the go in the extra bedroom and I don't want to interfere with the other televisions channels while others are at home.

          If your TV has component inputs, use a cable such as this one to have component video routed as follows:

          Genie Mini -Component-> Slingbox M1-Component->TV

          You can dedicate a video "box" (e.g. a Genie Mini) to a Slingbox.  No TV is necessary.
