This is an intentional change.
Apparently you'll get HD resolutions in the Auto setting, if there is enough bandwidth.
Personally I'm a bit dubious about this change as I've generally found Sling's algorithms too conservative - if I've got the borderline bandwidth needed for HD I'd prefer to choose HD and put up with the odd bit of buffering, rather than see it on SD to avoid buffering.
I haven't tried the new update though, so things might be working just fine.
Ultimately though i can't see why they couldn't have included HD capability in Auto, but left the manual HD option alone.
But this is Sling, over time they gradually remove functionality
Thanks for asking! HD mode is not available over your mobile network. To select this mode, you would need to be connected to a wireless network.
This article explain that you would need to be connected to a wireless network with at least 2 Mbps.

This is the only app of my entire collection of 300+ apps that I run on my iPhone, that I literally had to roll-back to an older version, simply because the current version of SlingPlayer REMOVES the HQ functionaility.
The algorithms that Sling uses in Auto mode are too weak and most times I'm experiencing very low stream rates (e.g. 250k) and terrible quality in Auto mode, even though HQ mode works fine over the same connection. For the sake of your customers, PLEASE ADD BACK IN HQ / HD MODE in the SlingPlayer for Mobile Devices!!!
