The issue may get more traction if there were more specifics in the report, including (but not limited to):
- iDevice model and iOS version
- Slingbox model and firmware revision
- SlingPlayer for iOS version (including whether this is the iPhone or iPad version of the app)
- Video out cabling, both type and whether it's Apple-branded
- TV model
- Network infrastructure (routers, speeds, etc)
- Slingbox location (on the LAN, remote across the Internet)
- A link to where Sling Inc. says they support the feature (so people can easily vet this setup should be possible)
- Examples of when this setup worked previously, if ever
- Testing performed to rule out failure points (tetsing with additional Slingboxes, TVs, video out cabling, iDevices, trying an Apple TV with AirPlay, etc.)
- Any other salient information
Yes the set-up and the TV-out has worked perfectly for 2 years now, and then suddenly after the update for Slinplayer Ipad version Friday last week, it is not possible to connect my TV screen by Composite cables any longer.
I have following equipment:
Slingbox HD -Pro med latest updated firmware
iPad 3 med latest updated Slingplayer
iPad with lates updated IOS
Composite cables to my TV
My headline "Slingplayer for iPad now offer TV-out" refer to Slingbox homepage where you can read about it an also follow a You Tube video
So again - it seems like the update of the Slingplayer has caused some changes in the software, which do not allowe You using the TV-out possiblity any longer. I really hope that the support guys at Slingbox will work fast this time.
I am having the same issue. I am using an ipod touch with OS6.1.3. It doesnt seem to matter what I am connected to, it just will not do the TV-out. It also doesnt matter what quality I am using. I have tried all three and none of them work. I guess we will just have to wait an see what Slingbox does if anything.
Same problem here. After the latest sling update I can not do TV out. It only plays audio through the TV, but does not show the picture on the the TV. I've been using the Apple composite connector for some time now with great success until the last update. I would connect it to the entertainment system in my van so son could watch live Yankee games while we travel. I'm running an iPhone 4s with ios 6.1.3 and Slingbox with 3.5.1. Between this and the buffering issues this may be my breaking point.
After reading all of the posts about the "No Video" problem using the Apple Composite AV cable on an iPad 2 with SlingPlayer, I finally was able to make mine work!
I followed all of the instructions to the letter, i.e. latest Slingbox firmware, proper connections, HQ mode, etc. and got the same result as everyone has reported, SOUND ONLY NO VIDEO!
I am able to get photos to display using Slideshow, Movies and YouTube videos will display, yet SlingPlayer will not?
My Slingbox Pro HD is connected via "Component" cable to my Directv receiver so the SlingPlayer source is set to "Component" as well.
I changed the source setting in SlingPlayer from the default "Component" setting to "Composite" and got a black screen. I then switched back to "Component" and got sound and video.
I disconnected and reconnected several times to confirm this process was resolving the issue and it worked every time. Can't explain why it only recognizes the Component Source setting when it is reset? Must be a SlingPlayer software glitch!
Hope this helps those having this issue.... While it is inconvenient, it is working for me!
This works for me as well. I needed to set up the composite input on my Slingbox 350 from the Slingbox website--I previously only had component input set up. After setting up the video provider as "not controllable", I did the following:
- Connecting the iPhone to an Apple composite video out cable
- Opening SlingPlayer for iPhone 3.5.1
- Starting a stream from my 350 (from the default component input)
- Changing the 350's input to the composite input
- Changing the 350's input back to the component input
Video output works correctly over the composite video out cable. Nice catch.
I just bought a Slingbox 500 as well as the iPad app.
Big reason was to use this in the gym. Hook up iPad composite video to monitor on gym equipment and watch my DVR.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
As others have reported no video, just audio.
I have tried the trick of selecting the video sources and it does not work.
Anyone know of a way to get the video to work. My iPad is the first generation iPad and the video works perfect for YouTube and other apps.
Anyone know how I can get my $15 back because the app is worthless to me. It doesn't work!!!!
If I can't get this to work I will return SB 500 to Best Buy
I will suggest you to contact Helpdesk. you have the rigt the first 12 months after buying you App Slingplayer or a Slingbox. I guess that is the only way to have Slingbox to look into the problem. As you can see on the tread here a lot of us have the same problem even if it has worked perfectly in 24
months until Slingbox updated the app.
It don't seems that they react on this Forum - even that they still on their Website claim that if buying the app you can just cable connect an iPad and a TV by usign a caomposite cable.
Its amasing that Slingbox even not comment it at all on their website or on this Forum, that they at least are working on a solution and an update on the App to get it back to work proberly again.
I have tried to get in Contact with Slingbox, but they will not take up my question because I bought the Slingbox more than 12 months ago.
Do some other in this Forum know how we can get in contact with Slingbox and ask them to look into this problem gnerated by the Company itselves
Try again to explain to their chat line, that it is there software which do not work any longer, and they are responsible since the latest update.
We have not bought an App where we every time we connect again we then have to change the set up.
It must be changed back to the version before, where it worked perfectly and without any problems at all.
I did the chat thing twice. The first person said to reset the slingbox. So I did but of course it didnt work. When I went back to the chat they did acknowledge the issue and they said their engineers were working on a fix where as the first person I chatted with said there were no known issues.
I have had my slingbox for a few years now and the support was always terrible. But eventually they have always fixed the issue. It is what it is. I will just be patient.
Well, I called the help(less) desk.
Explained the situation to the very pleasent woman.
She said no one else has reported this problem and since the Slingbox 500 is streaming video to the iPad app all of their hardware and software are working pefectly so it must be something else.
I informed her that it was the app having issues and that I am NOT the only one reporting this and suggested she go read this forum.
She put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back and asked for the message id # that is in the URL so she could find it.
I provided it to her and she put me on hold for a few minutes to read it.
She then came back and told me to do what the forum said. Um, don't you think I already tried that (I said to myself). I told her that I have already tried that and it didn't work.
She said well I guess you are out of luck.
I asked if there was anyway a ticket could be opened so the software folks could be made aware of this and perhaps they could update us on the forum. She put me on hold and then came back and said she just opened up a ticket. The ticket # is 762351. I asked if there was a way I could track the progress of it and she said there wasn't.
She then asked if I had any more questions/problems.
I asked if the SB 500 supported hard drives formatted in HFS (i.e., Mac). She said she would check and put me on hold for a few mintutes.
She came back and said no because it required files to be readable on the TV for things like jpg files.
Like WTF is she talking about???? I told her that answer made zero sense because HFS is a way the files are stored on the hard drive. I told her I assumed the system only supported NTFS or Windows formatted hard drives and not to worry about it because the other issue was the big one for me.
Wow, this person was totally clueless. Slingbox obviously does not have any technical savy requirements for the help center.
Looks like I am taking the SB 500 back to Best Buy tomorrow and going to iTunes to request a refund for the iPad app.
I will monitor this forum and if it looks like they fixed it I might try again. However, I think I will buy the 350 since the 500 does not support HFS and my cable box (Comcrap) encrypts everything so the HDMI port is useless.
So, at least there is a ticket number you folks can ask about.
I bought a Slingbox 500, installed, configured and updated it.
Purchased and installed Slingplayer app on my iPhone 4, ver 6.1.3. Tested app on my phone at home (without connecting the composite cable) and on the road OK.
At vacation home that has Comcast WiFi, connected my iPhone to TV using Apple branded composite out cable. I only get audio out. Slingbox support said if it works on the iPhone then their app is working properly. Called Apple support and spent an hour on the phone with them. They even called Slingbox and got no help from them.
I'm returning the Slingbox and getting a refund on the app as it does not do what I need it to do.
I have a sling box solo which work fine but here's my problem,, I also have a 3m projector sleeve for my iPhone 4S and it will not project video out anymore but I used to. Why , and what happened. It projects all other movie apps but not slingplayer anymore. Can any one tell me why and what happened.
