TiVo Peanut Remote... where have you gone???

    mrslingbox Newbie

WHAT the heck did you genius programers do with the TiVo peanut remote??? I have a TiVo "Premier" but selecting that or any of the newer TiVo models does NOT get you the correct "Peanut" remote!!! Does anyone test the stuff you push put to unsuspecting customers? I WANT MY TIVO PEATUN REMOTE BACK FOR MY TIVO PREMIER!!!

I am an IT support and A/V Specialist.

Noticed my Tivo Premiere 4 remote vanished from my iPad slingbox app and was replaced with a generic remote. Figured maybe my Slingbox had a hiccup so I logged into the settings, repeated set-up chose my Tivo Premiere as my source but the SlingBox setup page showed the same generic remote as the SlingBox iOS app. So I repeated the process trying other TIVO remotes. All the TIVO branded remotes show up as generic. If I choose the DirecTV model (which I don't have) its peanut remote appears.

I called Sling Support. First they tried to brush me off, and said I was no longer covered and that the issue was just me, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. Surprise surprise, the tech guy comes back and says actually 3 other people had called in with the same issue, but like me they had Macs and the issue was only taking place with Macs. That seemed odd to me since it was both my Mac AND my iPad. So I first tried another browser, Chrome...same issue. Then I logged into sling from my Windows 7 machine, same generic remote.

So recap for all you guys in engineering. I have a SOLO. Issue is taking place across MULTIPLE platforms, iOS, Mac 10.8, and Win 7. I have used the SlingBox app, Safari, Chrome, and Explorer. Issue is SlingBox SERVICE related. I believe your system is not placing the proper skin for any TIVO BRANDED remotes.

Now this is not the end of the world. For the moment it appears to be simply superficial. But still the different remote layout is annoying.

          Please fix this.

And for future reference make sure your guys review case notes before blowing off customers because they are no longer considered covered. If my unit was failing I understand you gotta get paid. But when your service is to blame your customers shouldn't have to pay. Thats just bad business and poor customer support. I would hate to stop recommending your products to my clients.

I expect to hear back from you guys since thats what your service rep promised when he directed me to post to this forum.

I have the exact same problem. Sling has done something to mess up the remotes. I had the correct remote yesterday, but as of today, it is a crapola generic remote with no TiVo button. This is Slings fault and their support is terrible. They always want money when the problem is their fault. For a niche company not likely to survive long term, they treat their users like ****.

Please, Sling Engineers, whatever you did on  Thursday, May 30th, destropyed the remotes for many TiVo users.

              PLEASE FIX IT.

I have the same problem. How can we get Slings attention. Calling or chatting just gets their usual "Your box is out of warranty, so you need tp pay us $30 before we will even listen to your issue." What greedy misguided people they are. The solution to their profitability problems is to sell more boxes, not rape their small base of current customers.

                @Justin:

I'm using Safari 5.1.9 on a MacBookPro with 10.6.8 and I first noticed this last night.

Before I posted, I did try reconfiguring. I tried using all "Premiere" models. All Premier models gave the same result (same incorrect remote; see image attached). I then tried configuring to "TiVo (Remote Address 1); this gave an old "Peanut." This would have been ok but unfortunately, most all "clicks" did not generate any response from my TiVo Premier.

I have the same problem; just noticed it last night.  Importantly, the Tivo button at the top of the remote is missing.

I'm wondering if there is some kind of copyright issue that no one is talking about.  Just speculation, but let the speculation run freely until they respond.

Having the same problem with the TIVO Premiere XL4 remote.  Currently using a TIVO Series3 (remote address 5) to get at least some (but not all) functionality.  Let's hope Slingbox resolves this issue soon.

To anyone affected, we are researching the issue with the TiVo remote. We apologize for any inconvenience and will update this thread as soon as we have additional information.

Starting Day Three with no TiVo support. This thread is getting longer everyday. If there are ten messages here, you can be sure there are many more people affected that don't use or know about the Forums.

What is so frustrating is that it all worked perfectly until the Sling engineers in India screwed it up. How long could it take to restore a backup? I am sure they keep backups of their servers. I am also sure Sling gave the engineers the weekend off.

BTW, Sling deleted my comments critical of them and their support policies. I named names as to who at Sling was responsible for the User Experience.

I guess I will just need to move my comments to uncensored web sites.

Sling apologizes but doesn't explain what happened or tell us when they will simply restore the remote database to the state it was in on Wednesday 5/29/13. Real details please. What happened and why? When will it be restored to a working state? Take responsibility. Own the problem. Instead of platitudes written by a PR person. Researching the problem?? The engineers uploaded some new code to the server. Duh?? The solution? Restore from a backup and then figure out what went wrong after user functionality has been restored.

The overall feeling I get is that they really don't care that much and will fix it when they get around to it. Meanwhile, I cannot watch my DVR or manage my TiVo box, set recordings, etc.

For those affected, this is a serious problem deserving of faster action by Sling.

Starting Day Five without the TiVo Remote function and with not a word from Sling other rhat they're researching the issue.

So after four days of research, can you report to the users what you have discovered and what you intend to do about it?

I am beginning to suspect it is a copyright issue raised by TiVo and TiVo  wants money from Sling to use their logo and remore image.

And if they talk about it, every other manufacturer is at their door asking for money and bingo, Sling is broke because they can't pay the ransom demanded. So, the answer is no answer lest they put ideas in the heads of the executives at Sony, Motorola, etc. So perhap, (and I have no direct or indirect knowledge of this,) the problem is bigger than we can imagine and Sling intentionally removed the TiVo remote to comply with a cease and desist demand from TiVo. Who really knows, since Sling isn't saying.

Otherwise this would have been fixed by now.

And Sling will neither confirm or deny.... thry are researching the issue. But it isn't engineers doing the research, but lawyers.

C'mon Sling, why don't you try telling the truth or leveling with your user base??

                              What is going on??

I am having this same issue on Slingplayer for iPad and on Safari for Mac... My TiVo premiere remote has changed to a generic remote without most of the useful buttons. Importantly, the TiVo button is gone and the previous channel button doesn't work at all.

                              Please fix ASAP.

Just throwing in my 2¢ here. I'm also seeing the generic remote where there once was my TiVo Premiere remote, both in Safari and on my iPad app. I'll try the series 3 workaround, and see how it goes.

Same problem.  Getting the generic TiVo Remote for my Premiere with my Sling HD Pro.  Was working fine last week.

Since the generic remote NAS no TiVo button, there's no way to get into the menus.  Please fix this.

I have the same problem on my PC. my Macbook and my iPad.  The one that replaced it has no TiVo button, so cannot easily get to the Main Menu, the 8 second rewind and 30 second forward buttons are missing, and more.  Reconfiguring the Slingbox is no help whatsoever.  Nor is yelling at the dumb thing.

TiVo Premier remote was there 1-2 days ago.

                                        Just some FYI...

If you try "Re-Configuring" there's a very large number of possible TiVo boxes to select from and an equally large number of associated remotes to select. As some of us have found out, most selections either give you the wrong remote altogether or a Peanut with limited functionality. After some trial and error, I have found that selecting ONLY "Series3" provides most all functionality (at least on my Premier box). Here's a step-by-step:

Select "Reset"  >  select your "TV Service"  >  select your "Channel Lineup"  >  when you get to "Set up your Remote" make sure "Search" is highlighted  >  in the search bar type "tivo"  >  scroll down to the line that ONLY says "Series3" and nothing else (this selection is just above "Sony SAT-T60").

Your mileage may vary with your TiVo model. Also, make sure your TiVo remote code is set to "0" (you can check this in your TiVo's System Information).

                                        Happy Re-Configuring!!

                                        (pun intented)

jibnyc's workaround is holding me for now, but I really want the Premiere peanut remote back on my iPad app a.s.a.p.

                                          TiVo Premiere

                                          Slingbox Pro-HD

Slingplayer iPad app (oddly running the windows/firefox and standalone app still had the Premiere peanut remote, now it's compromised by the workaround).

Strangely my PC at work is showing the correct remote (cached maybe?), but my iPad is showing the wrong remote.  It's obvious that somehow the skin for TiVo Premiere's either got removed or marked as a generic DVR.  What's worse is many of the buttons on the generic remote are grayed out things like instant replay and skip ahead don't work at all.

I was doing an online chat with a Sling representative and she told me the same thing about choosing Tivo Series 3 remote as a workaround. She actually said any of them would work. And that Tivo Series 1 would work too. I couldn't get it to work on my Mac, but it worked on my PC laptop. She suggested logging out and such, but nothing work. After I quite the online chat, I did some more exploration and decided to try the DirectTV TiVo remote. That at least gave me the peanut and a TiVo button again. But since I just discovered this forum and read that someone mentioned selecting Tivo Series3 Address 5, I tried it on my Mac and it works. I still can't understand why the Series 1 or Series 3 remotes did not work on the Mac.  *shrugs*

I did some researching and it appears the problem is that the TiVo Premiere remote data was removed from the IR code mapping database.  The Slingplayer grabs the TiVo Premiere data from the following URL:

                                                      http://services.sling.com/slingservices/rest/v1/remotes/deviceType/PVR/manufacturer/TiVo/irSetupCode/V1504

As you can see if you look at that link, it only contains one remote: the generic default PVR remote.  Compare that with the Series 3 remote:

                                                      http://services.sling.com/slingservices/rest/v1/remotes/deviceType/PVR/manufacturer/TiVo/irSetupCode/V1295

The series 3 remote database check contains two remotes: the default and the Series 3 remote.  The first link used to contain the TiVo Premiere remote info, which is now missing.

The remote file is still there (see below), but the link to it is gone.  Basically it's a remote database mapping problem.

I have rated the current version of the iOS app 1 star and commented on this issue. I doubt that'll get anyone's attention, but this SUCKS. I wish I could roll back to the previous version. Maybe I should jailbreak...

                                                          Hi,

Engineering has tested and released a software update this morning that should resolve the issue.

Please let me know if this fixes it for you.
