    Error W202, Have to reconnect every 2 minutes

      Is anyone experiencing the same issue? Every time I use any computer to connect to my slingbox solo I get disconnected after 2 minutes saying that there is poor internet connection. I have reset, rebooted, reinstalled the plugin,reconfigured the slingbox even rebooted my router and still get the same results. However my mobile devices are fine, not problem whatsoever with my ipad, iphone, galaxy s3. What's going on? Any thoughts?

          I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble keeping the Slingbox connected. To better assist you, I have a couple questions I would like to clarify with you:

          • Is this only happening on the home network?
          • Does the network light stay solid when you receive this message?
          • With your other devices, are you connecting via WiFi, 3G or 4G?

              Hi,

              Thanks for replying to my posting. This is happening both at home and at work. As for the network light on the slingbox, I'm not sure. I will definitely check to see what happens. In reference to the mobile devices, they all work fine on wifi and cellular networks. That's what's very strange.

                  Thank you for getting back to us so quickly! I have some questions in regards to the particular computers you are accessing Slingbox from:

                  • What Operating System are you attempting to access Slingbox from?
                  • What browsers are you accessing the Slingbox website from?
                  • If you are using Windows, you will want to make sure that the browser is not running a 64 Bit browser (it currently is not compatible on the Windows Operating System)

                      Both computers are Mac running 10.8.2 and I have Google Chrome but tried using Firefox and Safari with the same results.

                          I've been saying more or less the same thing, but we seem to be in a small minority.  As a mac user using the .363 plug-in with dual monitors in any browser, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, W202 errors happen, whereas the iPad client is very stable at 4032 kbps on auto on a home WiFi using 802.11n.  So it is clear to me that there is a problem with the plugin.

                           

                          The good thing I can say after over a month of using this with the 500 is that I've never had the instability you're seeing with disconnects every two minutes--mine typically will run from a few minutes to a few hours before stopping.  But as I have seen my application debug log showing errors every 10 seconds ALL the time, there is some kind of issue.  But unfortunately, after even posting relevant log details in another thread, tech support never followed up.   And after having been instructed by the chat support to post the log on the forum, the moderator here edited out the log contents, as apparently that is somehow in violation of house rules.  So at this point I am not optimistic that this problem is going to be escalated to the appropriate developers for a proper fix, but I hope you have better luck than I have with this, because ultimately I doubt the problem will self resolve without the problem in the plugin code being identified and fixed.

                           

                          To say something positive, the stream looks great on a 24" monitor.

                              Now I know it will never be resolved, because all tech support does is ask irrelevant questions and refuse to create a case to escalate, as is common practice elsewhere.  As a networking IT person, I know the lines of troubleshooting they tried on me told me they did not even understand the basic architecture, and one person did not understand and use the term "LAN" in a context that made sense.

                               

                              At least the plugin works most of the time in my case, so I can endure the problem.

                                This problem is only recent, since they updated the website. I never had this issue until recently. There is something incompatible with the latest update

                                    Does the slingbox has to have a static ip? My verizon actiontec router gave it an ip using DHCP, I don't know if it's correct! This behavior has been more prevalent right after the update of the slingbox website.

                                        Yes, I forgot that others said it just started happening.  I only started using the browser since I could not use my old SlingPlayer with the new 500.  But it is disturbing nonetheless that this problem has been historically a problem and it keeps recurring.  Hopefully, it gets fixed for good, but you never know what Apple may change that could break the plugin again in the future.  At least it would be ideal if the problem were acknowledged.

                                         

                                        As for your IP address, static or dynamic should have no bearing on this type of problem.  Unless you have something strange configuration like your router is set to force lease expiration every two minutes, thereby forcing a request to renew the lease.  But that process happens in an instant, and the vast majority of non-server systems use DHCP, so it should not be killing your stream if implemented properly.  This is not the type of thing that would normally be a concern, because this is a very well known protocol.

                                         

                                        So with that said, I just checked my Apple router and see the lease is set to 30 minutes, which is typical.  I just changed it to 30 days to see how that will work, because at least in my case the 30 minute interval makes sense as a potential source of intermittent problems.  Since both the slingbox and Mac are using DHCP, I can't say which could be the culprit, if either.

                                         

                                        For some reason, this lease time change seemed to force me to manually reconnect the slingbox to the WiFi, without re-entering the WiFi password.  That behavior is a little disturbing.

                                         

                                        But I would be disinclined to recommend that you change your slingbox to static from DHCP unless you know what addresses in your block can correctly be statically assigned, and can navigate your router to find out.  But there is not much harm in looking at your router config to make sure there is no 2 minute lease in effect, as unlikely as that would be.  And in your situation I would be interested in setting up a direct wired connection, but that might not be possible or convenient, by connecting the Ethernet on the slingbox to your router, as well as your Mac (via Ethernet), with proper Cat 5e/6 cables, to remove WiFi from the equation, even if WiFi works fine for the iPad app.

                                         

                                        Update: It was a stretch, but lengthening the lease interval yielded no improvement in W202 errors.

                                As far as the lights on the slingbox, both the power and network lights are on steady, when I connect the other light on the half loop lights up, then when I loose connection the network light flickers and the connected light goes out.

                              I have this exact issue.  Mac OS 10.8.2 Safari and Firefox.  I have tried multiple Macs, same issue.  I have tried rebooting slingbox and router.  I have been having the problem for the last 3 weeks.

                                  This has been happening to me since the website updated to the new look. I

                                  was able to watch my slingbox for hours without interruptions. Nothing have

                                  changed in my network and I have plenty of speed and bandwidth. I have tried

                                  everything with no luck. Reinstalled the plugin, used different computers

                                  and operating systems, reset and reboot both router and slingbox,

                                  reconfigure slingbox and so on. Don¹t know what else to do! Very annoyed and

                                  same exact issue here.

                                  i also notice a pattern.

                                  whenever using the remote, disconnect is immediate.

                                  truly, amazingly annoying.
