I don't wish to sound totally negative as when it works, its great. I would however suggest taking a look at the forum thread titled "Slingplayer app all of the sudden wont' play HQ or Auto". This will tell you everything you need to know about sling and the way they treat their customers and the reliability of the service recently.
It's not a cheap solution, and for what you end up paying (Hardware, plus iPhone player, plus iPad player, plus pay per indecent support after 90 days) you would expect a more reliable experience.
Will do that. Honestly I am not that interested in watching on Iphone and iPad, but really want to watch on my MacBook Pro, which would have pretty good internet in my office, hotel or 2nd home.
Will take a look at the forum you suggested.
Do you think the tech support of slingbox is better or worse than others?
Sling support sucks ! Can't wrap it up any other way.
Using the Mac web browser version IMHO is the most reliable method of viewing your slingbox video stream. The old unsupported mac application is no longer supported and only streams in SD quality, not HD as this is encrypted. I still use the stand alone app at time myself as it stays on top of other apps whilst working. If your purely going to watch Sling on your mac and not perform other things on the computer, then the browser version is the best option.
