Sorry to re-ignite my old post, but I stumbled on to a fix and wanted to post the answer.
Delete the app and reload it from the purchased section in the App Store. You will have to log back in again so make sure you have your username and password at hand.
Your remote will be refreshed to suit your device. In my instance my sky+ hd box.
I stumbled across this after I upgraded the app to the latest version on my iPad 3 and the remote changed to a black generic thing, meaning both the iPads had this horrible remote.
