    Is the Beta program real?

    foamman

My first question is, what happened to the old Sling Community? That website was much more user friendly than this one.

My real question is...Is the Beta program real? I have been a loyal slingbox owner since the release of the Slingbox Pro. I have purchased the Windows Mobile software, the iPhone software for my iTouch and now waiting patiently for the Android version for my Droid. I have been signed up for the Beta program since the beginning and have never been a part of any program. Not for my Blackberry Storm and not for the current Android Beta that no one is supposed to know about. Add in the bogus Beta Perks form. No hat....No t-shirt....No nothing! Don't get me wrong, I am still in love with my slingbox but I'm disillusioned by the "Beta" process. If there really is one.

          Hi Foamman,

A Beta program is probably like Fight Club.    First rule is don't talk about it.

SlingCommunity (and it's five years of info) was retired not long ago and no longer exists.  You'll see some familiar faces from the old community here, I count myself among the more recent of them.  A number of SlingCommunity regulars also hang out at placeshiftingenthusiasts.com.  These guys are focused on tech support, the Place Shifting guys are more amicable to scuttlebutt along with general interest troubleshooting.

          Happy trails,

After a public beta spanning a couple months, Sling is rolling out the  latest piece of its expanding SlingPlayer Mobile portfolio this week -- this time for Android, plugging the biggest  coverage gap it currently has. This is the same app we recently  had an opportunity to check out, but since that preview, we're  happy to report that it's been massaged into a more stable, more usable  setup -- gone are the disconnect crashes we'd had before. Furthermore,  Sling claims they've specifically worked to improve load and response  times with this version, and we have to say that the effort is  noticeable -- this definitely feels like the fastest SlingPlayer Mobile  we've used to date. It's officially available starting tomorrow from the  Market in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy,  Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and the US for $29.99. Follow  the break for the full press release.
