Thanks, Alan. I found the readme file and followed the directions as best I could, but am still having problems. Here's what I did and where I get stuck:
I transferred the files to the appropriate directory.
Got into the setup assistant
clicked on configure inputs
clicked on "Component" (which I presume referes to the input device on the TV's menu)
Clicked on "select from a list of supported devices"
Clicked on TV Cablel Box
Clicked on Motorola
Clicked on other
That gets to a window to put a conde, but it shows a pull-down that says Code0 to Code15, but will not take the code you gave me.
I also tried the same thing clicking on "PVR" and got down to the same window for codes. It only shows Code0 to Code5, but again, I couldn't put C0483 into the box.
I accept the fact that I am probably doing something stupid, but I hope you can help.
You have missed/ignored one of 2 aspects of the instructions: First one:
"These instructions assume you have installed the standalone Slingplayer on your PC/MAC, as you cannot install Custom Remotes from the Web-based player. If you do not have the program see http://support.slingbox.com/go/windows-download-desktop-us"
The symptoms you describe are what I would expect from the Web-based player.
"...scroll to the bottom of the Code numbers, select 'Custom' and then type C0483....."
Have you scrolled to the bottom ? If you are using a MAC then it is actually called "Alternative Code" rather then "Custom Code".
Thanks very much. You were right, I unknowingly ignored the bit about downloading the stand-alone version.
I tried doing that yesterday, but had to get involved in resetting the slingbox, and must have fouled something up. I didn't have enough time to deal with it yesterday, and will try again next week. I will let you know how I do.
I must say, this is a pain for one who just upgraded his DVR with a more up-to-date one, off the shelf at Comcast.
Thanks again, and peace.
