Hi reds05, if you have issues to install the Slingplayer plug-in in your computer, I suggest you reset the IE8 to default settings, you can also run a windows update and make sure that all the computer components are updated, also make sure that you have the latest Windows Installer.
Although I'm don't have the error message, my case is after install the downloaded websling, it doesn't show in IE addon list (already show all addons in IE). I'm not sure is this the correct thread to tag on.
Hope someone could solve this.
My system vista ultimate SP2, IE8, windows up to date.
Tested disable antivirus, spybot, resetting IE in internet options>advance>reset IE and same result.
I had the same issue and after much searching this was suggested and it worked!! Try loading a lower version.
http://download.slingmedia.com/player/pc/SlingPlayer_PC_Setup_1.5-US.exe The installation went right through and I am viewing again, although on a different player. Works for me. When I am brave again, I will try an update, but for now I will leave as-is. Hope this helps!
The link posted above worked for me although an older player. http://download.slingmedia.com/player/pc/SlingPlayer_PC_Setup_1.5-US.exe
Do not update to a newer version when prompted. I have been trying to fix this problem for months on our PC labptop when it worked fine before the update. Slingbox tech needs to fix this problem. They should be ashamed to ask for $30 for technical support to fix a problem caused by an update.
I have found a solution to this problem. First try to remove the WebSlingPlayer ActiveX from the add/remove programs. This will most likely fail. If so, use the Microsof Fix-It tool (http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/) to uninstall:
2) Install or upgrade hardware: Install or Remove Programs
3) Run Now (fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled)
Choose the following options in the Fix-it Tool:
Accept the agreement
Detect problems automattically
Look through the list for the WebSlingPlayer ActiveX, Select
Yes, Try uninstalling
Try and re-install the WebSlingPlayer ActiveX from Slingbox.com
Had the same problem for over a year. Fixed it today. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed. down load this fix and select the slingbox web plug in file.
